Researchers from ELLA took part in some exciting events in Auckland during the last month. On Saturday 12 March the ELLA team were at The University of Auckland’s Brain Day (Tamaki Campus) and also exhibited at the MOTAT Science Street Fair last Sunday 3 April. Both events were a huge success. The public got to better understand some of the activities scientific researchers include in their studies and were also offered some hands-on learning. One popular activity the ELLA team demonstrated was how optical illusions challenge people’s perceptual organisation. And another encouraged visitors to play games showing the effect of inattentional blindness – whereby in focusing on something specific, like the passes made in a basketball game, people become oblivious to other things happening, such as a monkey walking through the frame!
